Requirements for Certification as a High School Referee
PURPOSE: To establish the requirements to be certified as a High School Referee in CIF-SS & LA City.
PROCEDURE: Any person who may have an interest in High School Soccer may become a member of the San Gabriel Valley Soccer Officials Association (SGVSOA) by paying the non-refundable annual membership fee. This fee is set each year by the Executive Board and is designed to cover the cost of training referees, pay for rule books, liability insurance, and the per capita assessment from Southern California Soccer Officials Association (SCSOA). Being a member of SGVSOA does NOT qualify an individual to referee High School soccer.
CERTIFICATION: To Be certified as a High School soccer Referee an individual MUST meet the following requirements: NO EXCEPTIONS ALLOWED!
FIRST YEAR HIGH SCHOOL REFEREES:

Attend 18 Hours class room training as follows:
9 hours on a Saturday
9 hours in Three 3-hour evening sessions
During this training take both on-line and written tests
EXPERIENCED HIGH SCHOOL REFEREES:
Attend 9 Hours class room training as follows:
9 hours in Three 3-hour evening sessions
During this training take both on-line and written tests

THERE IS NO PHYSICAL PROFICIENCY TEST REQUIREMENT

Failure to complete these requirements will mean that the individual will NOT be certified and will not receive any game assignments. In as much as assignments will be handed out for the whole season on or about November 15, 2010. This training should be completed prior to that time.
While the above requirements have been established as mandatory, SGVSOA may choose to conduct the training in different formats. The overall determining factor is the actual classroom time, e.g. 18 hours for first year High School referees and 9 hours for experienced High School referees. All persons who wish to be members in SGVSOA must also complete the Unit registration and dates available form. Incomplete or incorrect forms may affect the assignor's ability to schedule the member for games. See SGVSOA registration form on website for specific details.
